A Dream is a Wish your Heart Makes

How wonderful would it be to help a child's wish come true with just a simple click of the keyboard?

That is what my friends are trying to do for their son, JT.

JT will be turning 12 years old on 12/12/12. Awesome, right??   His parents want nothing more then to make his dreams come true.  Don't we all want that for our kids?
JT's dream is to celebrate is 12th birthday in Walt Disney World.

JT had a very rough start in life.  His biologicals abused and neglected him.  He was one of the lucky ones though he make it out and into the foster system before, well, he was killed.  He was fostered by a wonderful couple who fell in love with him and adopted him on Valentine's Day.  As JT was growing up many issues started to rear their ugly head.  It turns out that he suffers from PTSD even though he was so very young when he was taken out of that abusive family.  He was also diagnosed with high function autism and Obsessive Defiance Disorder.  JT battles these obstacles each and every day.  He refuses, however, to let these challenges dictate who he wants to be.

He is a good student.

This was at a summer CSI camp program that he enjoyed.

He plays both Football and Baseball.  Loves them both and is really good too.

His biggest challenge is controlling his emotions.
He works so hard at this.  Yes I do mean HE works hard.  I have seen him start to loose control and stop, use his tools and calm down before his emotions took charge of him.

It turns out that the current economy has made it impossible for his parents to fulfill his wish.  This is totally heartbreaking for them all.  We all understand that though, don't we.  This economy has made it much harder for us to give our children what we really think and know they deserve.  We have all started to think outside the box and come up with creative ways to make holidays and birthdays special for our children.  That is exactly what my friend is doing.

He decided that maybe, just maybe, he can get a FaceBook page almost go viral in support of sending his son to Disney for his birthday.  It is his hope that he may get enough people to just 'LIKE' his page that a sponsor may see it and help get is son there.  Will it work?  Who knows yet.  What I do know is that it can't hurt.  At the very least, JT will see how many people cared enough to help make his birthday wish a reality.
He will see just how much his parents love him, that they will do just about anything to make him happy.

Won't you please help??  Just follow the link and 'LIKE' the page

If you would like, why not wish JT a happy birthday while you are there.

"A dream is a wish your heart make
When you're fast asleep
In dreams you loose your heartaches
Whatever you wish for, you keep.
Have faith in your dreams and someday
Your rainbow will come smiling through.
No matter how your heart is grieving
If you keep on believing
the dream that you dream will come true"

Follow up to Hurricane Sandy

As you know from my previous post that I had no choice but to stay in my home during Hurricane Sandy.  I do live on one of the Barrier Islands in New Jersey that were ordered a mandatory evacuation.  My house is on what is considered high land on our island.  In the 20 years that I have lived in this house, I have only seen my little street flood once and that was less then an inch of water.

You may have seen many images of the damage and flooding that Sandy so willingly gave to the Jersey Shore.  These are my personal pics from outside of my home.  They are before (Sunday Oct 28) and during (Monday Oct 30).  The during shots are actually before Sandy made landfall.  They were taken during our morning high tide, at around 9:30 in the morning.  You may not really be able to tell, but this water actually had a current, a fast current.

Before

During

Before

During

You can see that the water was an inch away from flooding my porch, next step was into my home.  I had several panic attacks during the day.  Did I do the right thing?  Should I have found a way to get off of this island.  Should I have found a place to stay for my daughter, my furbabies and myself?  The more I thought about it, the more I knew that I had no choice and that God's will would be done.  Mind you I didn't just sit back and do nothing.  From the moment after I took these pics, I knew I had to prepare my first floor.  I created 'sand bags' from water soaked blankets inside of trash bags.  I raised everything I could have, books on the bottom shelf of the bookself, photos from the bottom cabinets of the buffet, everything and anything on the floor.  I also took our important documents, birth certificates, passports, flood insurance paperwork, utility bills and medications and put them all into a water proof tupperware container.  I 'sealed' all my lower outlets by putting saran wrap over them and taping all 4 sides so that there was no way for water to get to them and cause a short leading to a fire.  Started to bring our food and water upstairs.  During all of this, and more panic attacks, I talked to friends and family on facebook.  Those who stayed on the island as well as those who didn't.  More then anything I prayed!

What was my final outcome??  Nothing less then a true MIRACLE.  The high tide during Sandy never got any higher to the high tide we had that morning. Water never came into my house. I never lost power, cable, internet or water.

Many of my friends and neighbors did have water damage, did loose power, and did have damage to the exterior of their home.  Some who live right off of our bay, lost everything.  All in all, we were spared the wrath of that which is named Sandy.  To the north of us there was so much more devastation

Brick NJ (where my cousin lives ~~ she lost power, still has no power, but otherwise fine)

We are Jersey Strong.  We will unite to help our neighbors.  Feed them, clothe them, and rebuild with them.

What have I learned from all of this?  I learned to NEVER take anything for granted! Always show those you love just how much you love them.  Live the life that you have been given with love, charity, faith and enjoyment.  You never know what can happen when you blink your eyes.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.
